KL's Best Rooftop Bars with Petronas Tower Views: Where to Watch the Sunset

5 bars we tested, what each one costs, and which one made us stop talking mid-sentence

The sun was dropping behind the Petronas Twin Towers and the entire skyline was turning orange. We were mid-conversation at Marini's on 57, and both of us just stopped. Not for a photo. Not for a toast. We just watched it happen. The bartender smiled like he'd seen this reaction a thousand times.

KL's rooftop bar scene punches way above what you'd expect for a city where street food costs $3. The towers are the anchor of every skyline view, and the bars have figured out exactly how to frame them. Some are sleek and expensive. Others are more relaxed with the same view for half the price. The difference between a good evening and a great one often comes down to which direction your chair faces.

We hit five rooftop spots across three nights. Here's which ones earned the bill, which ones to book early, and which one you can skip.

What It's Actually Like

KL has more rooftop bars with direct Petronas Tower views than any city we've visited has with views of its signature landmark. Every bar has a slightly different angle, and that difference matters more than you'd think. Some frame the towers dead center. Others catch them at an angle with the full skyline spreading behind. We tested five, and each gave us a different version of the same city.

Sky Bar at Traders Hotel was our first stop. It sits on the 33rd floor and has an infinity pool that reflects the towers at night. The crowd skews younger and louder on weekends. We went on a weekday evening and had a table immediately. On a Friday or Saturday, you'd need a reservation. Cocktails ran about RM50–60 ($12–14). The view is direct and unobstructed.

Marini's on 57 is the high-end option. It's on the 57th floor, which means you're almost at eye level with the skybridge of the Petronas Towers. The cocktails are more expensive, the dress code tighter, and the atmosphere quieter. This is where we watched the sunset that shut us both up. If you're going to splurge on one evening in KL, this is the one.

Satellite Restaurant and Bar was the most relaxed of the lot. Less flashy, fewer tourists, solid food alongside the drinks. A good pick if you want a rooftop dinner without the scene.

Wet Deck at the Westin gave us something different. We bought a day pass for the pool, which sits on an elevated deck with a straight shot of the towers. Spending an afternoon swimming with that skyline in the background felt absurd. The pool pass is worth looking into on your last day when you want to decompress.

Atmosphere 360 inside KL Tower is technically not a rooftop — it's a revolving restaurant at 282 meters. But the slow rotation through the entire KL panorama over the course of a meal makes it feel like you've been to every rooftop in the city without leaving your seat. The food is buffet-style and decent. The view is the main course.

For holiday weekends and events, some rooftop bars switch to prix fixe menus with minimum spends of RM200–400+. Always confirm pricing when you book.

How To Do This Right

    Must Know

Pro TipSunset in KL is around 7–7:30pm year-round. Arrive 30–45 minutes early to get settled and grab a good seat. The golden hour over the Petronas Towers lasts about 20 minutes, and you don't want to spend it waiting for a table.
Save MoneySatellite Restaurant and Bar and Wet Deck are more affordable than Sky Bar and Marini's. If you want Petronas views without the premium price tag, start there. You can also visit KL Tower's observation deck for sunset views without buying drinks.
Watch OutRooftop drinks are the one place in KL where prices match a Western city. A cocktail at Marini's costs what an entire day of street food costs elsewhere in KL. Budget for this separately.

    The Honest Bits

    Good surprises

    • The Petronas Tower views at sunset are genuinely world-class. We've been to rooftop bars on five continents, and KL's are among the best.
    • Multiple options at different price points mean you can pick the experience that matches your budget.
    • Wet Deck day pass is a genius move — pool time with Petronas views for a fraction of what a bar evening costs.

    Real talk

    • Drink prices can feel jarring after spending $3 on incredible street food all day. A single cocktail at Marini's costs more than dinner for two at Jalan Alor.
    • Weekend reservations fill up fast. We almost missed out on Sky Bar because we waited until the day before to book.
    • Some bars enforce minimum spends during holidays that aren't always disclosed upfront. Always ask.
